Federation of Bus Operators Associations of Tamil Nadu, Chennai

This building is the Headquarters of FoBOAT(Federation of Bus Operators Association of Tamil Nadu) which was to be a landmark building in Chennai. Steering away from the conventional glass box of every office building seen today, this building was conceived very differently. Though the idea for the design evolved from a light-hearted visual of an over-loaded bus, the structural intricacies are just as complex.

The structure is a Ribbed Vaulted Concrete Structure with a large 18 feet cantilevered mezzanine floor suspended from a central lift core. A large glass transparent façade created with the VS1 Systems where there are no horizontal  components allows for maximum natural light  thereby reducing the use of artificial lighting. The interiors have a clean, minimalist look. A steel spiral stairway leading to the mezzanine floor forms the focal element in the office space.
